Clock featuring a Bacchante carrying an infant satyr

The model for this group was made by the sculptor Louis-Simon Boizot, who had presented the plaster version at the Salon of 1795 and the marble at that of 1796. The same year, the bronzier François Rémond produced three patinated bronze versions, including this one, intended for clocks. The movement is placed in a drum decorated with vine leaves and grapes, among other musical instruments; the red griotte marble base features an openwork arabesque frieze containing cherubs, griffins and scrolls. The movement was made by Charles-Guillaume Manière, master clockmaker in 1778.
