Traditional Japanese robes are composed by seven sections of fabric, cut from a single strip that is approximately 36 centimeters wide. Two sections folded at shoulder height and sewn in the back form the central element and the addition of two shorter sections create the sleeves. The basic shape is then finished with two bands sewn along the frontal opening and the collar. This technique of production keeps scrap waste down to a minimum.
