Reproduction of a 15th-century votive offering – the Mataró Coca. Study of a ship, originally from the hermitage of Sant Simón of Mataró, and which is currently on display at the Maritime Museum de Rotterdam. The coca is a type of vessel, originally from the Baltic Sea and the North Sea, which was adapted in the Middle Ages for the trade routes to the Mediterranean. The characteristic features of the vessel were its rounded lines, wide beam, very high gunwale and the use of a square rig on the main mast and a lateen rig on the mizzen mast.
