Hats from the Island of San Andres are made with the branches of Coconut palms, to acquire the branches, a knife is used to separate the layers of the branches to increase the flexibility of the material when making the circumference of the head, the two ends of the branch are then tied up again to close the circular structure of the hat.

The rim of the hat is done with the leaves of the palm using a basic braiding technique around the hat and leaving the ends of the leaves exposed around the rim.
