This is a tool used to dig into the ground or scoop up soil. It generally consists of a wide, round blade into which a wooden shaft is inserted. One end of the blade is rolled in a cylindrical shape to insert the shaft, and the blade and shaft are affixed with nails. At the upper end of the cylindrical shaft is a triangular handle with two prongs and a short wooden cylinder fixed at the end of the two prongs. Gyeyangsap, a shovel used to scoop up salt from a salt pond, has a rectangular blade with a straight edge. A flat-bladed shovel resembling gyeyangsap is often used to mix cement with water in the present day.
