Coffin of Sesekh-nofru

Unknown artist-1107/-1047

Ny Carlsberg Glyptotek

Ny Carlsberg Glyptotek
Copenhagen V, Denmark

The coffin does not represent the dead person’s true appearance, but as the god he wished to become once he was embalmed and laid to rest. The arms are crossed in the manner of Osiris, the God of the Dead, and the pointed beard is likewise that of the god. Around the deceased’s temples is the Wreath of Righteousness, which the dead were granted if the gods found them worthy of eternal life.
