This hammered silver denarius was stamped in 235 during the rule of Severus Alexander. The obverse, seen above, depicts Julia Mamaea, mother of emperor Severus Alexander and daughter of Julia Maesa - sister-in-law of the Roman emperor Septimius Severus, and a powerful government leader whose influence led to two of her grandsons becoming emperors in addition to her son.
