“Cola Bloom was in a way both an extension of the kind of work I had been doing and at the same time was a step in a new direction. I had been using the ‘cold drink bottle’ in my paintings as an image of the urban culture, but this was also in a sense my first work in three dimensions... this time I felt inclined to utilize the unspoilt sprawling space of Sikribagh. Cola Bloom - created by painting 225 glass bottles and sticking them over an inverted dish antenna – was for me a bloom borne out of the earth. [However] the fact that it looked so synthetic gave it an element of surprise – an alien entrance into nature.” – Anjum Singh, Khoj Catalogue 2001(2002)
