Santillana del Mar (Cantabria, Spain), Spain

The groups that inhabited the Cantabrian coast during the Lower Magdalenian transformed different raw materials, such as shells, bones and stones, into objects for personal adornment. They shaped these materials with techniques such as abrasion, sawing and hitting. In this way, they made pendants as perfect as this small stone, which was later polished and perforated, imitating an atrophied deer canine. These small, round teeth were highly prized for turning into pendants during this period.
