No. 38 I received your letter of the 10th the day before yesterday as we left for the trenches. Since we have left Oise we have marched and traveled almost every day, we can clearly see we're not going on leave for a long time especially considering what has happened and is still happening in the region where we are. There's no point telling you where, you'll have to think about it and just mentioning the ones you sold hay to will give you a hint. In any case it's not nice, just as we arrived last night we had a fracas. It's not worth sending me parcels, they won't make it here still fresh. If the one you say you sent me gets here, I will let you know at once. I still have some and we can't buy anything at all. I don't even know if I'll get any paper, even the tiniest scrap I'll send you word I am still in good health and hope that this finds you [erased] we fasted a lot recently, you could believe it's Lent for how it's turning out.
