Joseon Dynasty

National Palace Museum of Korea
Seoul, South Korea

Seonheegung Shrine is where the Royal Noble Consort Yeong of the Yi clan, a concubine of King Yeongjo and mother of Crown Prince Sado, is enshrined. A concubine, even a mother to the king, was not entitled to be enshrined at the Royal Ancestral Shrine, and could only be honored in a separate shrine. This collection recorded the procedures of rites which were held at Seonheegung Shrine in the second month of every season, which were February, May, August, and November in the lunar calendar.
