As part of the 7th Vanport Mosaic Festival Vanport we reclaimed and re-activated the sites of Historic Vanport/now Delta Park, and Expo Center/Hall A, the former "Assembly Center" where more than 3,800 Japanese Americans were unjustly incarcerated in 1942, before being sent to American concentration camps.
Throughout An Afternoon of Re-membering and Re-seeding for Liberation we reflected on the 80 years since the creation of Vanport and issuance of Executive Order 9066, an offering to remember the history and spirit of Vanport, the Japanese and Japanese American people who were incarcerated here, and the peoples of the Multnomah, Wasco, Cowlitz, Kathlamet, Clackamas, Bands of Chinook, Tualatin Kalapuya, Molalla, and many other tribes who made their homes along the Columbia River.
