Canova's "Apollino" sculpture, created in 1797, was part of the collection of Cincinnato Baruzzi, Canova's student. Baruzzi bequeathed his villa and art collection to the city of Bologna in 1878, establishing an annual award for young artists. The Baruzzi Prize, until the mid-20th century, fostered painting, music, and sculpture at the national level.
