Opening in 1913 with a unique curve (required in order to find solid ground for its footings as it traversed the Arroyo Seco gully), the bridge only carried Route 66 proper from 1934-1940. The effort to preserve this beautiful structure led to the 1977 creation of Pasadena Heritage, one of the nation’s premiere preservation organizations.
