Colorful Jin-silk with Confronted Birds in Floral Medallions

This piece of jin-silk fragment with a foundation of blue and brown stripes is embellished with floral medallions encircling a flowering tree flanked by a pair of confronted birds. While the textile of this item is typical of Tang-dynasty weft-faced twill compound, its decorative pattern is characteristic of the Islamic art of the Central and West Asia, indicating that such techniques were still followed in Central Asia during that era, or this piece was made of the fabric Zandaniji recorded in the Yuan-dynasty documentation.
