Author O. Henry created the Cisco Kid in his 1907 short story "The Caballero's Way." The Cisco Kid became the main character in a run of 26 feature-length movies, a radio series that aired from 1942 to 1956, and a television series begun in 1950 and ending in 1956. Comic books, too, featured stories of the Cisco Kid and Pancho, his sidekick. Although O. Henry's character was non-Hispanic and an outlaw, the Cisco Kid of movies, radion, TV and comics was a heroic Mexican caballero.
