Red inverted triangle badge with KL Dachau and prisoner number 158831 acquired by Arthur List at an unknown date. The badge resembles the patches prisoners had to wear on their uniforms. Arthur, (then Adolf Lustgarten] at age 20, was a prisoner in Dachau on April 11, 1945, when it was liberated by US troops. Adolf and his two sisters were born in Goerlitz, Germany, to Herman and Ida, who were born in Poland. In 1938, they were expelled back to Poland by the Nazi regime. In 1940, Arthur was picked up off the streets in Wadowice to do forced labor. From 1941-43, he was an inmate in Flossenburg concentration camp, then in Hersbruck satellite camp. When that camp was evacuated in early April, Arthur was sent by train to Dachau. His parents and sisters were sent to Auschwitz in 1943 where it is presumed they were killed. Arthur emigrated to the United States in December 1946.
