This work of a surrealist character was painted by Diego Rivera to illustrate a poster announcing a lecture in Mexico City by André Breton, the leader of the movement,. Breton came to Mexico specially to meet Leon Trotsky, but he participated in many other activities, both cultural and political, during his stay in the country.
This work displays a large number of elements with double significance: a large face with eye vessels that are in constant communication through the flow of blood along veins/roots from a brain/tree that conceals male and female bodies amidst its foliage.
