On June 23, 1941, the CCP Central Committee announced its instruction on the International United Front Against Fascism, pointing out that “currently, the primary task of communists around the world is to mobilize the people of all countries to organize an international united front for fighting against fascism.” In December, the CCP Central Committee stated, “full cooperation with sincerity and frankness should be conducted with the British and Americans on various occasions to help increase the British and American force of resistance against Japan, and to improve the Chinese situation of resistance against aggression.” In accordance with the instruction of the CCP Central Committee, the No. 9 Hong Kong team of the Guangdong People’s Anti-Japanese Guerrillas set up an international working group to rescue a large number of British soldiers as well as residents from various nations. This compass was given to a Dongjiang Guerrilla soldier by William Lufko, an American pilot from the Fourteenth Air Force, who was rescued on May 26, 1944.
