Readers of the Los Angeles Times must have viewed a cartoon in amazement which places the retired UCLA professor in the midst of “three playing children, a St. Bernard and several scampering pet rabbits”. Arnold Schönberg’s portrait was sketched on the basis of a photo taken in 1940 by Eric Schaal in New York. The cartoonist was inspired by a copy of the photograph in Time Magazine (1 January 1945).
