Edmund Culpeper's model type (1670-1738)
In this model, the body is supported by a tripod that sits on a circular platform, which is itself supported on three feet attached to a wooden support. A drawer in the base keeps some accessories such as sample-holders and lenses of different focal lengths.
The external tube is covered with skate's skin and the interior with green parchment: the three legs are slightly curved, screwed to an octagonal base that has drawers with accessories: lenses, slides, etc. The mahogany case is shaped as a pyramid; the manufacturer's label, Thomas Wright is in its interior.
The tool's body is supported by a tripod that rests on a circular platform with a central circular opening. The platform sits on three feet attached to a wooden support. A small concave mirror in the middle of the support, on the device's axis, which lights up from below the transparent objects placed on a glass slide in front of the platinum opening.
The elevation of this platform over a second tripod is a visible improvement because it allows to easily light up the objects through transparency with the support of a reflecting mirror.
England, manufactured by Thomas Wright
