This microscope tube has a consistent diameter. The eyepiece is at the top and there is a revolver at the bottom, which can hold 3 lenses. The tube is held at the end of the arm with a rack mechanism, which is controlled by 2 large screws for coarse focusing and 2 smaller screws marked 0 to 90 for fine focusing.
The fixed square stage is attached to the lower part of the arm. It has a mechanical system that allows slides to move sideways, forward, and backward using 2 screws. Under the stage there is a light condenser, light filters, and an iris-style diaphragm, all in one piece that moves vertically on a rack mechanism. Lighting is provided by a plano-concave mirror at the bottom of the piece. The arm is supported on a double triangular pillar with a tilting system, which itself sits on a horseshoe-shaped base with a small heel.
The front of the tube bears the maker's inscription: "Ernst Leitz. Wetzlar." Behind the tube is the microscope serial number: "402601."
