In 1983 the Japanese Kyocera launches on the market what can be considered the first true laptop, the Kyotronic KC-85. Tandy, NEC and Olivetti obtain a licence to develop their own models, among them there is the Olivetti M10. It has a display that can be tilted and it can be connected to a barcode scanner, which makes it useful for shops and warehouses. An acoustic coupler allows it to connect to the data banks of the BBS-net (the ancestor of the Web).
