About the Work: By merging geometric shapes with photographs of her own body, Sara Modiano abstracts the human form and focuses the viewer’s attention on the intense expressions and emotions of the subject. A performance artist, Modiano uses dramatic poses and geometric distortion to create optical illusions from photographed self-portraits. In hopes of “elevating” her viewers to a “higher level” her works become a visual autobiography of her spiritual and emotional state.
