Raised in a millinery workshop with her parents, Iglesias went on to study mathematics while learning the maternal trade. Inspired by the pre-Colombian feather art of the Amantecas, she now specialises in feather mosaics, as well as clothing, headwear, and occasional collaborations with French furniture maker Collect-Xion.
Imbued with the subtle embrace of imprecision, this mosaic of partridge feathers effects an other-worldly optical illusion. Inspired by ancient Mexican techniques learned from the Amantecas, Iglesias applies a striking lineal effect, anchoring each feather with wax to create an abstract form with softly expressed finishing. It is only on careful observation that the work is revealed to be made from feathers, speaking to the artist’s assured flair with the transcendental power of her material.
