Congressman Henry Riggs Rathbone and Osborn Oldroyd

Ford's Theatre

Ford's Theatre
Washington, D.C., United States

Even before his death in 1930, Osborn Oldroyd’s (right) Lincoln memorabilia collection outgrew the space offered by the Petersen House. Congressman Henry Riggs Rathbone (R-Ill., left) and Director of Public Buildings Ulysses S. Grant III raised the money to purchase the collection and moved it into the Ford’s Theatre Lincoln Museum. This relocation enabled the government to restore the Petersen House to its 1865-era appearance.
