There would have been a building at the south-east corner of the great hall from at least 1270 when the chapel of St. Peter was built, since the squint in the wall allowed views from here into the chapel during services. The building may have provided private accomodation for Countess Isabella or one of her high officials, possibly the constable, who was responsible for the military administration of the castle.
