An arrangement by Constance Spry for Queen Elizabeth II's coronation banquet in the Green Room at Lancaster House, London.
Spry writes in 'Party Flowers'; "Sir Brian Mountain, having looked at the rooms, indicated that he would like to have a list of what might be needed and, thinking that this would be used as a general indication, we drew it up in most comprehensive fashion. When the time came, lavish and lovely flowers poured in and we started to work with exciting material; with lilies, roses, sweet peas, arums, gladioli. peonies all in creams, yellows, and the shell pinks suggested, together with tropical leaves and other treasures. A lordly gift indeed and a wonderful collection of flowers to have acquired in the first week of June after an exceptionally inclement spring."
