The Confederate government quickly produced and approved this framework, drawing heavily upon the U.S. Constitution. They established a two-house congress and created a supreme court (but never filled the seats). In addition to explicitly protecting slavery, they made other significant changes. They increased executive powers, created one, six-year term for the president, and strengthened states’ rights.
