Chicago toymaker Halsam Products Co. was founded by Harold Elliot and Sam Goss, Jr. in 1917. The factory produced embossed wooden toys and games with a primary focus on alphabet blocks, checkers, and domino sets. Halsam received several patents for their block products, including "safety blocks," sets with rounded corners. They were also one of the first companies to license Disney characters in the late 1920. What started as a venture to avoid the _cyclical and unpredictable__ printing business, evolved into more than 30 years of success producing block sets that helped toddlers_ development of hand-eye coordination, creativity, and experimentation.
