Best-Lock Construction Toys produces building sets that work with LEGO bricks. Best-Lock products, however, sell much more cheaply than their better-known competition. The Best-Lock company calls Lancashire, England, home. In 2004 Best-Lock defeated a patent challenge from LEGO. Since its legal success, the British toy manufacturer has distributed its products more widely in Europe and the United States. Best-Lock offers themed play sets about pirates, the Wild West, law enforcement, firefighting, and, unlike LEGO, the military. In fact, this particular construction set boasts that it is an "Official Licensed Product of the U.S. Army." In case anyone worries about mixing Best-Lock and LEGO blocks, the smaller company's product packaging promises that a Best-Lock construction set "Works with other brands."
