In the 1930s and 1940s, the company that produced Lincoln Logs construction sets also offered other building toys and play sets. Capitalizing on the name of the 16th president, the Chicago toy maker made wooden Lincoln Bricks, Lincoln Stones, Lincoln Barnyards, and other building sets. The Lincoln Barnyard set combined the construction play of the company's popular Lincoln Logs with the fantasy or pretend play of a play set. The barnyard set included wooden parts that built a big red barn with a green roof. The set also contained wooden fence section to contain the metal figures of cows, horses, pigs, and sheep to populate the imaginative play of life on the farm. The set even included two figures of the Lombardy poplar trees that covered Midwest plains. The addition of the figures of the farmer and his wife demonstrated who was clearly in charge.
