When A. G. Spauling & Bros. took over the production of Tinkertoy construction sets in the 1950s, it made a few changes in the product line. It conspicuously reissued a set with a motor, which had been removed from the toy market in the 1940s when nearly all metal was dedicated to the war effort. Spalding's Motorized Tinkertoy No. 178 came with a battery-operated motor and was available from about 1960 to 1970.
