Construction toys vary in sophistication, ranging from simple wooden blocks to complex Lego sets with detailed instructions. Regardless of the skill level required of players, construction toys share one crucial element, their infinite, reusable quality. A child can build one structure, knock it down or take it apart, and build something new, limited only by the scope of her imagination. Many toys do not have the same open-ended nature. A board game, for instance, has a limited number of possible outcomes, and a coloring book survives only one use, but an endless number of possibilities await every time a child engages in construction play.
