Following WWII, bubbles boomed as toy manufacturers used plastic to make bubble toys and detergents replaced traditional soap solutions. Buster Bubbles was introduced in 1957 and was sold in variety and department stores. Buster's Bubble recipe called for distilled water, dish washing liquid, Karo syrup, and food coloring (if desired).
