The Contarex with its “bull’s eye,” a conspicuous integrated exposure meter above the lens, is the first single-lens reflex camera from Zeiss Ikon with a leaf shutter and interchangeable lenses. This camera represents Zeiss Ikon’s attempt to catch up the competitive edge held meanwhile by Japanese and other manufacturers. However, priced at DM 1,000, the camera was too expensive for most camera buyers.
