Description: At the time of this drawing, around 1613-14, Cerano was engaged in the planning of the sculptural elements of the facade of the church of San Paolo Converso in Milan. This monochromatic work is the preparatory cartoon for the relief sculpture for the lunette above the main portal. The wealth of plasticity and lighting effects, as well as the forward projection of the compositional structure, are clear suggestions that the work was destined to be translated into marble.
