The convex mirror hanging next to the chamber window, with its ivory and mother of pearl intarsia, was designed by Friedrich Wilhelm Wanderer. The only mirrors available in Dürer's time were of this type – a
section cut from a glass sphere and coated on the inside with a metal alloy.

Dürer can be assumed to have used just such convex mirrors, for instance in making his self-portraits.
