The average mediaeval household did not have a kitchen, in the modern sense of the term. There would be a fire in the large living hall, over which the meat would be roasted on a spit while other food simmered in cooking pots. This cooking pot is made of pottery and decorated with ridges. It has a flat rim. The pot was found in the Frankish burial ground in Putten.
