A large portion of the earthenwares on board the shipwreck are believed to have been part of the commercial cargo, but it is probable that some of the artifacts were part of the ship’s equipment. One example of the artifact probably meant for use by the crew during the voyage is a coarse ware in the form of a shallow cooking pot decorated with a herringbone pattern applied with carved wooden paddle, a standard Malay technique. On some parts of the pot are remnants of the pot’s original contents, charred material which were preserved beneath the growths of marine organism.
