The body of the cup is twisted in a helicoidal shape forming four branches or stems. There are different naturalistic and symbolic motifs, such as small flowers and the glyph malinalli or twisted herb painted on each one of these stems. The neck of the vessel has a sequence of flowers that seem to represent xiloxochitl, a small red flower with numerous very fine stamens. Some symbolic motifs are painted near the edge. The base in the shape of a pedestal finishes with the sequence of these same flowers. Due to this design, this beautiful vessel is known as “flower cup”.It was found in 1969 in a ceremonial center located found in the excavations for the construction of the Pino Suarez subway station, in the Historic Center of Mexico City.
