In Christian Egypt, the new religion introduced a measure of austerity. This is reflected in the jewellery produced by the Copts – Egyptian Christians. This bracelet was forged from iron, with a thin layer of brass over the four medallions and the small rectangular panels between them. The latter bear traces of an inscription in Greek letters, probably a protective formula. The medallions are engraved with figures of saints, floral motifs, and geometrical patterns.
