This installation investigates a fully automated building system for housing in Seoul, based on modular timber building blocks. Just like pixels or digital bits, these building elements have no specific meaning or function, but can be assembled into an endless variety of forms. This allows the building system to respond to the often challenging and unique geography of Seoul, with many small plots and sloping terrain. The proposed building system enables high degrees of flexibility and adaptability, to respond to the inhabitants’ unique lifestyles and interests, while at the same time it remains efficient to produce. Endless variations can be generated and imagined, similar to the children’s game Lego.
