Coreyah is a Korean/world music ensemble consisting of four performers of Korean traditional instruments, one guitarist, and one world percussionist. Though rooted in the peninsula’s rich musical tradition, Coreyah also strives to create “living Korean music” by incorporating a variety of world music heritages, such as Anglo-American rock music, Balkan gypsy music and different genres from South America and Africa. Since its debut in 2010, Coreyah has been expanding its musical domain by actively blurring the distinction between traditional and contemporary popular music. In 2011, the band was invited to perform at the Belgian world music festival “Sfinx Mixed,” which launched their four-city European tour. In 2013, Coreyah received the highest mark at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, and since then, the group has gone on to perform in Australia, Singapore, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Qatar and Oman. The band is thus active both at home and abroad.
