Flat bags were unique to the Columbia Plateau area. They were made by the Nez Perce, Yakama, Cayuse, Palouse, Walla Walla and the Umatilla. Nez Perce weaving such as these cornhusk bags were sought after trade items in the Plateau trade network. In later years, these bags were fashioned with brightly colored false embroidery of cornhusk, wool or acrylic yarn.

Plain twining of cotton warp, Indian hemp and cotton wefts; false embroidery of dyed and undyed cornhusk.
