This banner is part of the museum's Community Banners project, 'Memories and Dreams'. It is symbolic of Cornish immigrants' experiences in South Australia.
Made using machine applique, hand embroidery, quilting. Scenes from Cornwall depict St. Ives, South Crofty mines, behind the padded figures of a woman with lace cap and lace edged white apron and black skirt. Her miner husband stands next to her with black cap and jacket and grey trousers. A belt is buckled across his jacket and 3 white wax candles hang from his shirt. Below are some scenes from Australia, eg Burra, Moonta, Wallaroo, Kadina and Bendigo. 'The Cornish' is embroidered in white along the lower edge. A black shield with gold edges and sequins with the name all represent the ship.

The statement to go with the banner was given as: Images of Cornwall and South Australia reveal the links between the old and new country. The miner and his wife are represented in traditional costume, while the reference to Bendigo relates to the South Australian Cornish who were among the first diggers on the Victorian goldfields. Christopher Faull came to South Australia in 1864. Carolyn Faull, wife of his great grandson says, ‘This banner depicts what could have been his memories of the old country and dreams of the new’.
