Brush was best known for his sensitive paintings of Native Americans in the 1880s, as well as his paintings of the Madonna and Child that used his wife and children as models. He is also noted for his early experiments with protective coloration, or camouflage, during World War I. This landscape is believed to depict the countryside around Cornish, NH.
