Correspondence from the 'Wolfe Tone and United Irishmen Memorial Committee' about the purchase of the graves that became the republican plot even before the death of Ashe. The committee was a front for the IRB, and had been used as a flag of convenience for the organisation of O'Donovan Rossa's funeral in 1915. In the aftermath of the Easter Rising, the idea of a dedicated memorial plot for republicans gathered momentum. While John J. Reynolds conducted this correspondence, the president of the committee is still listed as Thomas J. Clarke, with Seán Mac Diarmada as honorary treasurer; both men had been executed in May 1916 for their role in the Easter Rising (Glasnevin Trust).
