Iron built with wood and zinc lining, at the shipyards “The Thames Iron Works” in Blackwall, England, the Corvette “Afonso de Albuquerque” was launched on July 9, 1884. It was an important innovation in Portugal, as it was the first Portuguese ship to have electric installation.
