The Cape Town Minstrel Carnival, previously known as the Coon Carnival, has been celebrated every year on January 2nd since 1887. Orginially the only day off slaves in Cape Town would get to celebrate the new year in their own manner, this tradition has been kept alive trough the ages, bringing a very happy and colourful atmosphere to the city.
